Today, nearly 1.5 million children in the wold are deprived of their liberty.

However, the deprivation of liberty of minors is strictly regulated by the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, which limits it to a last resort while being "as brief as possible". The problem is that imprisonment is an easy solution for many States, which, for various reasons, do not necessarily seek other alternative means. Indeed, if imprisonment is only the last resort, States should have provided in their national laws for a variety of alternative measures that are applicable to the particular situation of children.

Encourage and prioritize the development of non-repressive practices such as restorative justice and juvenile mediation, in order to introduce them into the practice of the judicial environment.

Target group: Professionals working with children and adolescents in conflict or in contact with the law: police officers, prosecutors, judges, lawyers, staff of public and penal institutions, educators, psychologists, doctors (pediatricians, child psychiatrists, etc.), criminologists, migration professionals, actors of non-governmental organizations and international organizations, researchers.

Objectives:

To train professionals in the understanding and implementation of juvenile justice based on a restorative and reparative approach;
To know the different tools and methods of intervention centered on the rights of the child;
To develop projects and interventions with children in conflict or in contact with the law while respecting children's rights.
