Birth of IDE in Sion/Bramois, mother: Association Internationale des Magistrats de la Jeunesse et de la Famille (AIMJF); father: Institut Universitaire Kurt Bösch (IUKB).

1995

May 10 the IDE Foundation is created. Founders: Bernard Comby, President, Jean Zermatten, Vice-President…

Jean-Pierre Rausis, Treasurer, Mrs Renate Winter, Mr Michel Lachat, members. Aims: create a “Children’s Rights” culture, publicize and promote Children’s Rights, raise awareness among professionals and inspire legislators. IDE is developing its activities abroad and in Switzerland, focusing on 2 areas: awareness-raising and training. Slogan: Raise awareness – Train – Act.

First international seminar “Children’s rights: a fine declaration! and afterwards? Since then, 20 international seminars organized on topics related to “children’s rights”.

1997

First IDE publication “One Convention, many views. Children’s rights between theory and practice”.

Contract with SDC to open a website, develop a legislative database…
and distance learning. Hiring personnel.

with the NGO “Creating possibilities”, and the creation of a module entitled: “Introducing children’s rights into the new Nepalese Constitution”. Publication: “Enfan’Phare: 20 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child”.

2011

Start of work for teachers in the Czech Republic and First seminar…
“Best practices experiences in education on children’s rights for the Czech Republic. Linked to program with Czech NGO Cesko-Britska. End of 2017 programs. Mission to Senegal to evaluate the Juvenile Justice system. Start of a regular activity to improve Juvenile Justice and children’s rights. Several training courses in juvenile justice for professionals and CAS in children’s rights. Activities since 2012. The Swiss Competence Center for Human Rights (CSDH) has begun its work. IUKB and IDE lead activities in the field of children and youth.

2013

IUKB/IDE international colloquium on the theme: The right of children and adolescents to their sexual orientation and gender identity; now an annual event.

2014

International seminar “The silent revolution: 25 years of children’s rights”…
First continuing education module with the China Welfare Institute and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (Institute of Youth and Juvenile Studies). IDE conducts 4 modules for 25 professionals (police officers, prosecutors, judges, social workers and psychologists,) in Algiers, from May 2014 to January 2015. External evaluation of IDE. Foundation Board decisions on governance and new management.

2015

Changes in relations with the Centre interfacultaire de l’Université de Genève…
CIDE becomes IDE’s privileged partner for all training courses in Switzerland and abroad. Solid partnership with a positive impact on training courses, providing added value for participants. First CAS in children’s rights delivered with the Centre de Formation Judiciaire in Dakar. IDE carries out research with CIDE and SHVR on “L’enfant en Valais de 1815 à 2015. De Jean-Baptiste, le petit chevrier à Ana Luisa, adolescente interconnectée”.

2016

The MOOC Children’s Human Rights: an Interdisciplinary Introduction prepared with the CIDE…
and various international experts, is launched on the Coursera platform. MOOC still active today: https://www.coursera.org/learn/childrens-rights Publication of “L’enfant en Valais, de 1815 à 2015” illustrated, in 3 volumes, produced in collaboration with the Société d’histoire du Valais romand. IDE launches a MOOC for the Horn of Africa: “Through the Horn of Africa: Take Action for the Rights of the Child”…
IDE conducts a 4-day training course for 45 traditional chiefs from Burkina Faso on behalf of Terre des hommes (Tdh project, strengthening links between formal and traditional justice). Partnership with the Canton of Valais: to highlight achievements in the field of integrating children with disabilities, and the current needs of professionals, parents and the children concerned. Final document sent to the authorities.

Over the years, IDE has developed a wide range of training courses, both in Sion and…
abroad for over 30 countries (e.g. Burma, Cameroon, Ukraine, Iran, Georgia, Tajikistan, Algeria, China…), mainly in juvenile justice, but also in other fields.
