According to the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, children’s participation is essential to “living together”. It means making children actors in decisions that concern them.

Nevertheless, the Committee on the Rights of the Child constantly reminds States that children’s participation is not a foregone conclusion, and that efforts must be made:
“(The Committee) Recommends that the State party establish systems or procedures to ensure children’s participation, train social workers and administrative or judicial authorities and provide them with professional support. (The Committee) Recommends that the State party put in place systems or procedures to ensure children’s participation, train social workers and administrative or judicial authorities, and provide professional support for those concerned “.
